Campsite Review: Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camping

Nestled in the heart of the Shropshire countryside, Spring field Dark Skies site is a simple campsite without being too stripped back for those who love a strong WI-FI signal!

The site operates off grid with the aim of being as carbon neautral as possible. They have electric hook ups run off solar and wastewater is run through reed beds. Essentially, they're doing everything they can to be as eco-friendly as possible.

A small site set on a slight slope, the flattest pitches are the three hardstanding ones. Although we were booked onto the smallest one, the lovely owners moved us onto the larger one which I'm grateful for as the smaller one didn't have the best view. Having said that, the view across the Shropshire fields was viewable from most areas and plopping your seats at the back of the van would have probably worked pretty well.

This is a small site and we shared it with three vans, one motorhome and a handful of tents. They provide two toilets with handwashing facilities, rubbish disposal, grey water disposal and washing up facilities. There's also a communal firepit which some campers started to use until the weather decided to be rather unkind to us.

Unfortunately for us, the weather did not play nicely and what could have been such wonderful views were marred by cloud and rain. Our initial time in the sunshine was lovely, though, and I can only imagine how stunning it must be during a sunset or at night with clear skies. I'd say this campsite is a must for star gazing.

The location of this site only fifteen minutes from the lovely town of Much Wenlock and half an hour from Ironbridge makes it the perfect base for exploring Shropshire. Much Wenlock is small but beautiful and filled with many dog-friendly pubs. We loved our lunch and the George and the Dragon followed by a circular walk up into the hills. Ironbridge is worth a visit too, especially if you love museums and it's super dog friendly.

I'd recommend this site for those looking for a quiet site with lovely owners and expansive views.
