Sitting on a hill above Bourton-on-the-Water, Field Barn Park is ideally situated to explore the best that the Cotswolds has to offer. Field Barn Park is a gateway to the Cotswolds' most iconic attractions and hidden gems. From the enchanting sandy-coloured cottages that dot the landscape to the meandering rivers and quaint bridges, every corner of this region tells a story of timeless beauty and rural tranquillity.
If you're looking for views across the expansive countryside while you enjoy a quiet summer evening, however, this park isn't for you. With clever planting that makes you feel like you're lost in a maze, each extremely generous plot feels secluded and private and this is definitely on the side of a relaxing, quiet campsite, especially given it's exclusively for over 30s.
Field Barn Park also offers a shower block, washing up facilities, a fridge/freezer and two smaller no-frills toilets at two corners of the plot to save you a walk. If that isn't enough for you, on Saturday's they have an Italian pizza maker visit and you can enjoy a warm, delicious pizza staring up at the stars and enjoying the silence of this blissfully quiet campsite. (Perfect for when you've overdone the rum the night before and am nursing the worst hangover of your life!)
Location wise, there's plenty of country walks and you're a 40 minute walk from Bourton-on-the-Water. Given the touristy nature of this town, I suggest visiting in the very early hours or even not at all if it's the summer holidays! It's without a doubt one of the most beautiful villages, but the small place is overrun in the summer with coach loads of tourists being driven in. The great thing about the campsite, though, is you can pop your head in, grab an ice cream and walk back up the hill to retreat to the peace and quiet.
If you're looking for a quieter place to visit with some stunning cottages and lovely cafes, try Winchcombe. A thirty minute drive from the campsite, this peaceful town also has a free museum and is famous for Sudeley castle. Even on the weekend, it's easy to find parking and a seat in one of the fabulous pubs.
I highly recommend Field Barn Park as a great location and a superbly run site. Just don't overdo the rum.
